We all know that a bit of forward planning in life makes things go a lot smoother. Planning for the school summer holidays is not just a good idea, it is essential if you want everyone in the family to really enjoy the time off from school. As usual, there is wealth of activities on offer for kids this summer, meaning there is bound to be something to suit not only the kids, but the family as a whole. Summer camps are great ways to block-book time in your child’s summer holidays and let them get fully immersed in a camp experience. Camps run in the area where you live gives your children a chance to spend time with other local kids, and also gives them the opportunity to meet with kids that might not attend their school, but are living in your area. This can be a good way to meet new friends and allows them to flourish outside of the school environment. While week-long camps are a great way to fill the days, take a look also at day-long events or summer classes. These might be more specialized and can be a great way to introduce your children to something new. If you can take children of various ages to the one activity this is great. Not only is it convenient to drop them off together, it is something they will be able to share and experience with each other, giving them plenty to talk about when they get home. When kids are different ages it can be difficult getting some common ground they can share. The gap between year groups in school can be quickly overcome by introducing a shared hobby or interest. Look out for summer activities that accommodate various age groups and show your kids what fun they can have together. The other form of summer activity to consider for the school holidays is not just one that accommodates the children, but one that includes adults too. What better way to spend time on a new activity than by doing it with your parents or guardians, allowing all the family the chance to enjoy and explore an activity together. Look out for courses or classes on a hobby or activity that interests all the family. Try building up skills that you can all work on together and start having a hobby that you can all enjoy throughout the whole year. Use the summer holidays wisely to give you a chance to get together and invest your time wisely so you can benefit from your summer activity class or course all during the year. Now you just need to put that thinking cap on to see what would be a good fit for everyone in the house! You could put a short list together and put it to a vote. Maybe even get some of the older kids to check out what is on offer and come up with suggestions as to what they would like also.
